Next-generation Corvette to Debut in Early 2013 at Guaranty Chevrolet, Orange County

SANTA ANA, Calif. (PRWEB) December 28, 2012

The seventh-generation Corvette will debut Jan. 13, 2013, in Detroit and to start the countdown to 1.13.13, Chevrolet and Guaranty Chevrolet in Orange County previewed the new Crossed Flags logo for the new 2014 Corvette.

The new Crossed Flags logo was unveiled at Road Atlanta, where Corvette Racing celebrated a sweep of the 2012 production-based American Le Mans Series GT championships.

With the new Corvette, designers set out to build a world-challenging sports car with design, refinement, efficiency and driver engagement that is second to none. The result is a truly all-new Corvette for Orange County area drivers. There are only two carryover parts from the C6 used in the C7 – the cabin air filter and the rear latch for the removable roof panel.

“For Orange County area Corvette drivers and enthusiasts the all-new seventh-generation Corvette’s design represents a distinctive American high-performance sports car,” said Joe Renden of Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana. “We are excited for the new Corvette to hit our showroom floors in 2013!.”

The Crossed Flags logo has been a hallmark of the Corvette since its 1953 introduction. It has always incorporated a pair of flags, one a racing checkered flag and other featuring the Chevrolet “bowtie” emblem and a French fleur-de-lis. The design has evolved over the years, and has been featured on more than 1.5 million Corvettes built between 1953 and today.

For the seventh-generation Corvette, the Crossed Flags design is a more technical, more angular and more swept appearance – in proportion that symbolizes the new car. It is also a more detailed representation, showing greater depth, color and attention to detail.

More than 100 variations were considered before the final design was selected.

Over coming weeks, more information and video content about the seventh-generation Corvette will be unlocked on http://www.one13thirteen.com. Enthusiasts can join the conversation about the next-generation Corvette, as well as keep track of new announcements on Facebook (facebook.com/corvette) and Twitter @Chevrolet (#Corvette). Fans that follow the #one13thirteen hashtag on Twitter can look forward to exclusive updates.

FAST FACT: The first Corvette debuted as a concept car on Jan. 17, 1953 at the GM Motorama in New York City. That car originally featured an emblem with a checkered flag crossed with an American flag. Because use of the American flag was prohibited as part of a commercial property, the logo was changed to the fleur-de-lis/bowtie design when the Corvette went into production in June 1953.

The Corvette: Celebrating 60 Years of Design, Performance and Technology at Guaranty Chevrolet Orange County

(PRWEB) January 24, 2013

The all-new 2014 Corvette rolls into Guaranty Chevrolet Orange County later this year, building on a six-decade legacy of design, performance and technology. It is also the world’s longest-running continuously produced sports car and the best-selling sports car in America, commanding 33 percent of the segment.

Corvette’s legacy was forged 60 years ago, in January, when it was introduced at the General Motors Motorama show in New York City. The Corvette wasn’t born an icon, however. It earned its reputation as America’s and Orange County’s sports car through decades of continual refinement and fundamental engineering advancements.

The 2014 Corvette represents the seventh generation of the car. Each has been defined by all-new or significantly revised design, architecture and technology features – including powertrain and chassis/suspension technologies – that have helped Corvette maintain its position as the best-selling premium sports car in America. All, however, have shared unique elements:

1. All Corvettes have been two-seat sports cars with a front engine driving the rear- wheels, and a long dash-to-axle proportion that enhances its powerful look

2. Corvettes have always featured bodies made of composite materials, from fiberglass on the first cars in 1953 to lighter, more advanced composites – including carbon fiber – today

3. The small-block V-8 has been the standard engine in the Corvette for 57 of its 60 years

4. Corvette has been a test-bed for new technologies that migrate to other GM vehicles

For nearly all of its history, Corvette’s design, performance and technology has been influenced by the lessons learned on the racetrack. It is a pillar of the development process established by Zora Arkus-Duntov, Corvette’s first chief engineer, through overt and covert racing initiatives, leading up to the factory-backed Corvette Racing program’s 2012 American Le Mans Series championship in the production-based GT class.

Corvette’s iconic status is reflected off the track, as well. In popular culture it has numerous co-starring roles to its credit, from “Route 66” on television (1960-64) to the namesake big-screen performance in “Corvette Summer” (1978) – and countless cameos and supporting roles since. Corvette has inspired songs, artwork and video games, including the current version of the Gran Turismo series, where the seventh-generation appeared in pre-production camouflage. There is even a Corvette child’s bed from Step2 featuring functional headlights.

Generation 1 (C1): 1953-62

Corvette established its reputation as leader in technology, design and performance from the moment its sleek, fiberglass-bodied concept was introduced at the General Motors Motorama exposition at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, on Jan. 17, 1953. Production began six months later, as the first large-scale mass-produced car to feature an all-fiberglass body. Along with being lighter than steel, which helped improve the car’s power-to-weight ratio, fiberglass enabled greater design flexibility for the curvaceous body than could be stamped out in a conventional steel press.

Styling evolved significantly during the Corvette’s first generation, but many design cues that would become synonymous with the car were established, including the long dash-to-axle proportion, dual round taillamps and a dual-cockpit-style interior. All first-generation cars were convertibles.

Aficionados generally refer to first-generation Corvettes as “solid axle” models, because they were built on a modified Chevrolet passenger-car architecture that featured a live rear axle. It was powered in the first two years by the stalwart Chevy inline-six engine, dubbed “Blue Flame” in the Corvette. The iconic Small Block V-8 came in the car’s third year of production.

Generation 2 (C2): 1963-67

The second-generation Corvette – dubbed Sting Ray, after a concept race car that influenced its design – represented a revolution in design, engineering technology and performance. Where the first-generation Corvettes were based on a modified passenger sedan platform, the second-generation was a clean-sheet redesign based on a dedicated architecture. It enabled a lower center of gravity and lower, sportier seating position, while supporting an all-new independent rear suspension that dramatically transformed the car’s road-holding performance.

Corvette’s new foundation also supported the landmark “split rear window” styling of an all-new coupe body style. The 1963 Corvette often has been recognized as one of the most beautiful in automotive history. The term comes from the “spine” that runs down the center of the body, bisecting the rear window. The C2 Corvette also introduced retractable headlamps, which would be a signature Corvette cue for the next 41 years.

The addition of a coupe to the Corvette lineup essentially doubled sales in the next few years, as the car became more practical for owners in northern climates, while the new frame structure and independent suspension system made the Corvette a world-class sports car.

Generation 3 (C3) – 1968-82

Corvette’s third generation was its longest and the car evolved significantly during an upheaval in the auto industry. It was introduced for 1968 as the Stingray (one word vs. two words with the second generation), although aficionados generally call these cars “shark” models, for their aggressive styling. They are instantly identifiable by their prominent “blistered” fender design and long dash-to-axle proportion, which gives them an exaggerated suggestion of motion. Retractable headlamps and dual-element taillamps carry on as traditional design elements.

From a performance standpoint, the C3 generation was transitional. Big-block engines rated at 435 horsepower were popular at the start of the generation, but industry changes to unleaded fuel, tighter emissions standards and changing consumer attitudes affected output over the next several years. In 1975, the standard 350 small-block was rated at only 165 horsepower – about 20 percent less than the original 195-hp small-block from 1955.

Although the Corvette’s horsepower was down, engineers continued to focus on the car’s technology and added to its legacy of advanced materials, particularly the composite body materials. They evolved from conventional fiberglass to sheet-molding compound (SMC), which enabled body panels that were smoother right out of the mold, requiring less surface finishing prior to painting. All Corvettes since 1973 have used SMC body panels, but the material composition has changed dramatically, featuring less traditional fiberglass and more lightweight plastic that give the material more elasticity to prevent cracking.

Despite the evolution in traditional performance during the third generation, the Corvette was more popular than ever. The 58,307 sales in 1979 remains the Corvette’s annual sales record.

Generation 4 (C4) – 1983-96

The fourth-generation Corvette symbolized the high-tech 1980s with significant advancements in design and manufacturing techniques, electronically controlled performance and safety features. Styling advances included an electroluminescent instrument panel with digital readouts that captured the zeitgeist of the circuit board era. It retained its signature proportion, dual-round taillamps and retractable headlamps, adding new hatchback rear glass for easier access to the cargo area.

The C4’s technological advancements started at the foundation, with a unitized “backbone” frame structure. The new body was also sleeker, achieving a 0.34 coefficient of drag that was nearly 25 percent less than the C3.

Under the hood, Tuned Port Injection was introduced in 1985, ushering in the modern era of port fuel injection and establishing Corvette’s reputation as a high-performance sports car with good fuel economy.

There were no 1983 models offered for sale only and only 44 prototypes were built. Today, only one remains and it is on display at the National Corvette Museum, in Bowling Green, Ky.

Generation 5 (C5) – 1997-2004

The introduction of the C5 generation represented one of the rare instances in the automotive world when a new model weighed less than its predecessor. The 1997 Corvette was larger overall than the outgoing C4 yet weighed nearly 100 pounds less.

A number of contributors helped drive down the C5’s curb weight, including the use of SMC body panels that had a higher content of plastic than ever before. The C5’s panels were exceptionally light, but so was the Corvette’s all-new chassis, which used beefy rails and hydroformed sections to provide strength with less complexity and weight. The floor sections used a sandwich of materials including featherweight balsa wood to minimize mass.

An all-new Gen 3 small-block also contributed to the C5’s weight savings and overall greater balance. It featured a lightweight aluminum cylinder block and aluminum heads, as well as a composite intake manifold that weighed less than 10 pounds.

When it came to manufacturing, Corvette led with the changeover to a more environmentally friendly waterborne paint system that reduced solvents in the mix from about 60 percent to about 10 percent. Today, waterborne paint systems are the standard for nearly every auto manufacturer.

Generation 6 (C6) – 2005-13

The sixth-generation Corvette raised eyebrows because it didn’t raise its headlamps. For the first time since the 1962, the Corvette featured fixed headlamps, a move to reduce weight, complexity and aerodynamic drag. The dual-round taillamps and cockpit-style interior remained.

The C6 Corvette shared the basic chassis layout and architectural design as the C5 and despite additional safety features that added a few pounds, weight reduction initiatives – including the fixed headlamps – kept the car’s curb weight within about 20 pounds of the 1997 model.

The 2006 introduction of the C6 Z06, however, represented an unprecedented commitment by Chevrolet to the Corvette’s performance through technology and lightweight materials. It featured an aluminum-based chassis structure in place of the standard model’s steel structure and carbon fiber body panels that contributed to a curb weight of less than 3,200 pounds – giving it a power-to-weight ratio that most higher-priced exotics couldn’t match.

Despite looking like the steel chassis of the base Corvette, the Z06’s aluminum frame weighed nearly one-third less. And besides the core material difference, the aluminum frame features a unique manufacturing process that incorporated metal inert gas and laser welding, as well as self-piercing rivets. Magnesium is used for the engine cradle and some other suspension attachment points, for greater mass reduction. On the outside, the Z06 differed from base Corvettes with carbon fiber panels used for the front fenders, front wheel houses and rear fenders. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 used the same aluminum chassis structure as the Z06 and incorporated more carbon fiber body parts, including the roof panel.

The lightweight materials and advanced technologies that drove the development and performance of the Z06 and ZR1 set the stage for the seventh-generation Corvette, which will feature an aluminum frame structure on the base model that is about 60 percent stiffer than the Z06/ZR1 frame. The C7 Corvette also builds on the advanced powertrain technology pioneered with previous models to help make it the most powerful standard Corvette ever and the most efficient.

Young Orange County Buyers Go for Chevrolet Spark Price and Color at Guaranty Chevrolet

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) February 15, 2013

Early buyer data for the Chevrolet Spark, including Orange County drivers, shows that 29 percent of buyers are under 35, more than half are coming from non-General Motors’ brands, and price is a big selling point.

“Orange County area drivers love the Spark,” said Joe Renden of Guaranty Chevrolet, Orange County. “Customers are finding out what we already know that the Spark is a great car, with great colors, for a great price.”

According to Chevy Spark early buyer data, Spark owners are:

The next-generation customer – Spark is “igniting” the interest of some of Chevrolet’s youngest buyers, with 29 percent of customers under 35.

New to Chevy – Nearly 54 percent of Spark purchases are conquest sales – buyers who are new to the brand. More than one in five buyers is coming from an import car brand.

Majority female – Fifty-one percent of Sparks are purchased by women, more than any other Chevrolet vehicle.

Sizzling with Salsa – Twenty-three percent of Spark owners are choosing Salsa Red, making it the Spark’s most popular exterior color. Jalapeno Green and Denim Blue are the second- and third-most popular Spark colors.

Seeking a value and fuel economy – Early Spark owners indicate their most important reasons for purchasing a Spark were fuel economy and price to value.

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark, a four-passenger, five-door hatchback, was designed to challenge what’s possible in the mini car segment. Spark is the only car in its segment to provide MyLink Radio – a seven-inch color touch screen radio capable of displaying smartphone-based music, videos, photos and contacts for hands-free calling.

The Spark has the lowest starting MSRP in the mini care segment, and offers competitive EPA-estimated fuel economy of 38 mpg highway.

Though small on the outside, Spark offers more passenger and cargo room than other mini cars, with 225 percent more cargo room than a Scion iQ and 20 percent more than a Fiat 500.

Launched in Korea in 2009 and now available in almost every country in the world, the Spark came to the U.S. market is in response to the growing popularity of mini cars among U.S. consumers.

Expanding the Spark lineup, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is designed to make the trip as electrifying as the destination. It will be priced under $ 25,000 with tax incentives and will be available in California, Oregon, Canada, South Korea and other global markets.

Guaranty Chevrolet Delivers Power, Efficiency and Value to Orange County Drivers

SANTA ANA, Calif. (PRWEB) April 03, 2013

Chevrolet and Guaranty Chevrolet recently announced initial pricing, performance data, and EPA fuel efficiency estimates for the 2014 Silverado 1500, raising the bar in Orange County’s fiercely competitive light-duty pickup segment.

Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the new 2014 Silverado regular cab will start at $ 24,585, including a $ 995 destination freight charge, the same base price as the 2013 model. For that price, the 2014 Silverado regular cab, which starts production this summer, will include a number of major improvements:

    A more powerful/ efficient EcoTec3 engine
    A six-speed automatic transmission
A stronger, quieter cab with an all-new interior
Four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors
A new bed with standard box rail protectors and CornerStep bumper

The base starting prices for the Silverado crew cab, the first model to be available in Guaranty Chevrolet’s showroom later this spring, and for the new double cab Silverado, which replaces the extended cab, also will be the same as for the corresponding 2013 models.

Orange County buyers of all 2014 Silverados also will receive a standard scheduled maintenance program for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Up to four maintenance visits are included in the price of the vehicle, each one of which includes a regularly scheduled oil change, oil filter replacement, tire rotation and multi-point vehicle inspection, based on the schedule in the vehicle owner’s manual.

“The 2014 Silverado is all-new, inside and out,” said Joe Renden of Guaranty Chevrolet. “Orange County area pick-up owners will find that the new Silverado is an excellent choice that combines innovative features and equivalent pricing to the 2013 models. The 2014 Silverado is sure to wow our customers.”

Proven V-8 power with better efficiency than a turbo V-6.

The 2014 Silverado launches later this spring with crew cab models equipped with the all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, which is expected to power three out of four Silverado 1500s.

The all-new 2014 Silverado will offer Orange County area drivers an EPA estimated 23 mpg highway for 2wd models, and 22 mpg highway for 4×4 models. That is better than any V-8 competitor, and beats the EPA estimates for the 2013 Ford EcoBoost turbocharged V-6 for both 2wd and 4×4 models.

Best available towing rating of any light-duty pickup

Demonstrating the capability of the 2014 Silverado and its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 engine, double cab 2WD models equipped with the available max towing package, available later this year, will have towing ratings of up to 11,500 pounds, more than any light duty pickup currently on the market.

To further save Orange County customers money and reduce inconvenience, Silverado’s 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 is designed to operate on regular 87 octane gasoline even when towing or hauling.

Seamlessly switch to four-cylinder operation

Silverado’s combination of capability and efficiency results in part from its EcoTec3 engines, which provide the proven power of a large-displacement truck engine when needed, then switch seamlessly to four-cylinder operation under lighter loads.

All three EcoTec engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing, a combination not found in competitive trucks. The engines also use a compact overhead valve design and weight-saving components such as aluminum blocks and cylinder heads to reduce the mass of the engines for additional energy savings.

Among the other updates for 2014 are a stronger, quieter cab; revised steering, suspension and brakes; and ingenious solutions for managing cargo in the bed.

The broadest portfolio, the right tools for the job

The 2014 Silverado 1500 crew cab will be joined later this year by a regular cab model and a new double cab model, which replaces the extended cab and features forward-hinged rear doors for easier access to the back seat. Also coming soon are new heavy duty pickups and an all-new midsize truck based on the successful global Colorado.

Chevrolet Malibu Makes Midsize Vehicle Entry Easier for Orange County Area Owners with New Feature

SANTA ANA, CA (PRWEB) May 13, 2013

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan equipped with four-door passive entry makes life a little easier for those Orange County area drivers frantically searching for keys in the bottom of a deep purse or fumbling to find them when carrying a child or bags of groceries.

Chevrolet placed small buttons on all four doors allowing the driver to unlock the door with one press and all four doors and the trunk with two presses, a brand new option at Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana.

The new feature is available on the Camero inspired Malibu LTZ and will be available on other models for 2014. Four-door passive entry is a common feature on most luxury and import vehicles, but scarce on cars in the midsize segment. Using Malibu’s closed-loop wireless communication system, the car verifies that the proper key fob is within acceptable range – about three feet – and allows the driver to unlock the vehicle. Pressing a button on the door handle – as opposed to automatically unlocking the door upon approaching the car – offered better and safer functionality as each key fob is uniquely mated to its vehicle, so there is practically no chance of false unlocks.

“Orange County area Malibu owners are all about convenience and functionality,” said Joe Renden of Guaranty Chevrolet. “Chevrolet’s brand new passive entry technology will definitely make everyday use of their vehicles easier.”

The 2013 Malibu is Chevrolet’s first global midsize sedan and is sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents. It is the first 2013 midsize car to earn a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from NHTSA and a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.

The Malibu has three powertrains, available for Orange County area drivers, including the Malibu Eco, which uses fuel-saving eAssist™ technology to enable EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 city / 37 highway. Malibu also offers a fuel-efficient and powerful Ecotec 2.5L four-cylinder engine and an Ecotec 2.0L turbo that makes 259 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

“The High Country is the best the Silverado lineup has to offer,” said Joe Renden of Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana. “It has premium features and materials, and a western-themed appearance. Southern California Silverado enthusiasts are going to love it.”

Standard engine for the Silverado High Country is the 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8, SAE-certified at 355 horsepower (250 kW), with class-leading V-8 fuel economy of up to 23 mpg highway (2WD models). The all-new 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 also will be available. Both engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, proving the refined power and torque truck customers expect. Both seamlessly switch to four-cylinder mode to save fuel during light-load driving.

Because of the high level of standard equipment, Silverado High Country will offer Orange County area buyers only a few options. In addition to the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8, they include a chrome rear bumper with CornerStep, integrated trailer brake controller, sunroof, navigation, and a rear-seat entertainment system as well as a High Country Premium Package which includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package, adjustable pedals and integrated trailer brake controller.
